We are a spiritual community in the Christian Tradition

We extend a special welcome to people who are single, married, divorced, filthy rich, or dirt poor. We extend a welcome to crying babies, impatient toddlers, too-cool-for-school teens and walker dependent adults. We welcome those who are as skinny as a rail and those who could afford to lose a few pounds. We welcome you no matter your sexual orientation or gender identity, and we welcome you if those topics make you feel uncomfortable.

You’re welcome here if you’re just visiting, just woke up, or just got out of jail. We don’t care if you’re more Catholic than the Pope or more Methodist than John Wesley, or if you never stepped foot into a church before.

We welcome Beaver AND Duck fans, starving artists, tree-huggers, latte sippers, vegetarians, and junk-food eaters. We welcome those who are in recovery or still addicted. We welcome you if you’re having problems, down in the dumps, or in need of prayer, whether you had church shoved down your throat as a kid, or you don’t like “organized religion.” We’ve been there too.

We welcome those who are inked, pierced, or both. We welcome tourists, seekers and doubters, bleeding hearts… and you!

We are a

United Methodist Church

Newman United Methodist is a part of the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. The UMC is a global denomination with 12.8 million members. The UMC was formed in 1968 when the Methodist-Episcopal and the Evangelical United Brethren Church came together.

Methodist, or also called Wesleyan, faith traditions got their start as a movement within the Church of England prior to the US Revolution. Once in the US, the movement grew and established itself has an opposition force to slavery. From the very beginning, Methodists were a people committed to justice.

Being a part of this global denomination allows Newman UMC to be in connection with followers of Christ in every corner of the globe who are working tirelessly to make the world a better place and transform lives in meaningful ways.

Keep in mind that not all Methodists have the same beliefs. At Newman UMC we welcome different perspectives and strive to learn from one another to seek a deeper relationship with God.
