We thrive on your leadership

Newman United Methodist Church is primarily a volunteer led church. Much of the work of the church is directed by our church council, a group of volunteer leaders, and our pastor. We have a wonderful team of staff who are committed to making Newman a place where love works.

  • Our Pastor

Rev. Ryan Scott been our pastor since July 1, 2019. Previously he has served churches in Toledo OR, Eugene OR, Springfield OR, and Seattle WA. Pastor Ryan is a Licensed Pastor in the Oregon-Idaho Conference of the United Methodist Church. He received his education at the Claremont School of Theology in Southern CA. Prior to being a pastor Ryan worked in after school program management and youth recreation programming. Pastor Ryan loves exploring new ideas and imaginative ways of being church in the 21st century. He is passionate about social justice and the use of creativity to bring about positive social change in a community.

In his free time he enjoys spending time in the outdoors hiking, camping and exploring. Pastor Ryan lives with his husband, Andre, who is a graphic designer and marketing professional. They have a dog, Bailey, who is a bundle of energy and joy and can be expected to be seen around the church from time to time.

  • Office Administrator

Charlene Burgess has been our administrator for a number of years and has a lot of experience. If you have a question, she can answer it! Char handles scheduling, office tasks, supply ordering, communications, rental requests, some financial duties, and so much more. Char is an invaluable member of the Newman UMC staff.

  • Music Directors

Tim Wallace and Michelle LeComte have a passion for music and creating meaningful experiences in worship for people from all sorts of backgrounds. Being married for a number of years, they naturally work well together as a team and bring a lot of musical talent to Newman. They are both life-long professional musicians and have many skills to offer. Tim plays piano, anything with a reed, and sings too! Michelle has a beautiful voice, plays guitar, and has been known to do some songwriting as well.

  • Organist

Bill Richardson has been playing the organ since he was a child. Bill adds a traditional flare to our worship services every month on the first Sunday.

You may also see Bill from time to time as he performs alongside Tim and Michelle and sometimes steps up as our substitute pianist when Tim is away.

  • Sunday Host

Charlotte Ashley works on Sunday's to ensure the church is open and ready for you.
