You're invited to celebrate and remember the legacy and vision of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This celebration will include live music from the Songbird Trio, The Rogue Singers, and other local musicians. In addition to music there will be poetry, speakers, singing, and a panel discussion. Light refreshments will also be provided.


The panel discussion theme is "Breaking Down Barriers" and will be moderated by the Rev. Ernestein Flemister if St. Luke's Presbyterian Church. 


This event is a partnership between Newman United Methodist Church, Bethany Presbyterian Church, St. Luke's Episcopal Church, and Rogue Community College. 


This event is FREE and open to the public. All are welcome! 

Featured Speakers and Host:

Featured Speaker Rev. Ryan Scott is the pastor at Newman United Methodist Church in Grants Pass. He has served United Methodist Churches across Oregon and Washington. Rev. Ryan is the first openly gay clergy assigned to Newman UMC. 


Ryan is an advocate for the continued inclusion of LGBTQ people in the life and leadership of the church by serving as the chair of the Oregon-Idaho United Methodist LGBTQ+ Advocacy Task Force. Ryan also helped lead the fight to end discrimination of LGBTQ+ people in the Boy Scouts of America.    


Featured Speaker: Rev. Ernestein Flemister is the Rector of St. Luke's Presbyterian Church in Grants Pass. She is the first woman and first person of color to be called by the St. Luke's congregation. She is a fierce advocate for marginalized people and has a no-nonsense attitude when it comes to advocating for justice.   


Event Host: Rev. Tom Berry is the pastor at Bethany Presbyterian Church.  He is also an advocate for justice and inclusion in our community and has a passion for meaningful conversation and healthy dialogue. Rev. Tom and his church are graciously hosting this event.
